Toriyama's World - Kinnikuman

Volume three opens with a bang... literally.

Any happiness Kinnikuman gains from being selected as Japan's Olympic representative is crushed when Terryman arrives to inform him that the Olympic commission has decided to have the tournament without Japan. The Chairman reveals that without Ultraman there is no point and having Kinnikuman will only bring embarassment to Japan. At this point Robin Mask appears. We then go to the gang searching for Kin after he ran off in tears.

The Olympics opening ceremonies are about to begin but Kinnikuman seems to be concerned with something else...

The heroes walk into the stadium but things just never work out for poor Kinnikuman.

With all the heroes assembled, the format of the competition is revealed. It is expalined that only 8 participants will make it to the final tournament and that preliminary events will occur to choose the best eight. With everyone anxious with anticipation, Kinnikuman's father, King Mayumi, announces the first event.........Rock, Paper, Scissors!!!!
With the Heroes close to starting a riot because of the stupidity of the event, Mayumi tries to explain that luck is a important part of being a super hero. The crowd is finally quieted when Robin Mask tells them that they can leave if they don't like it. Kinnikuman is matched up with a crab Chojin whose hands can only do "scissors." Needless to say, Kinnikuman does "rock" and wins. He then is hoisted into the air in celebration.

Event #2 is Monster lifting Some of Kinnikuman's old enemies try to interfer but end up helping Kin out with a kick to the groin as he was struggling to lift the 2 ton beast.
With two events concluded, only 50 heroes remain.

The third event is a marathon, but not an ordinary one. It's a marathon to the moon and back. The first 8 heroes to fly to the moon, pick up a stuffed bunny that has been placed there and return to Earth make it to the finals. (Note-There's a story in Japan that a bunny lives on the moon. When the Chairman mentions the bunny part Kinnikuman starts calling him an idiot for believing in that story. Kinnikuman is then beaten and tied up for being an annoying pest...)

Kinnikuman is in last place as seven of the heroes have crossed the finish line. At this point, a bomb that had been planted in his bunny doll to make sure he fails explodes. The explosion hurls him to Earth and once again the plan to ruin Kinnikuman's chances ends up helping him win.

With 10 chojin crossing the line at once, it is decided that a Battle Royal will be held with the winner taking the last spot in the finals.

Kinnikuman is actually the first person eliminated in the Battle Royal, however, the remaining 9 fighters end up killing each other and thus Kinnikuman makes it to the final by default.
Only eight remain: Kinnikuman, Terryman, Robin Mask, Brockenman, Skyman, Ramenman, Curry Cook, and Canadianman.

A drawing is held to choose the brackets with Kinnikuman getting lucky #7.

It is then announced that Block A which features Robin Mask and Terryman would be broadcast live on TV to around the world but that Block B with Kinnikuman would only be on the radio. As Kinnikuman yells at the comissioner, Meat tries to figure out why this is. He looks up the history of the three other chojins in Block B and finds out they are ruthless fighters who often kill their opponents. Meat worries if Kinnikuman can survive.

The first match is between Robin Mask and Canadianman and ends quickly with Robin winning.

Brockenman starts off his fight with some dirty tactics but is soon ripped in half by Ramenman.
This site freaks out Kinnikuman and he runs away.

Terryman and Skyman are battling but Terry comes out on top in the end.

Mayumi and Meat finally convince Kinnikuman to go to the ring but he's immediately the victim of a Curry Cook attack which gives Kinnikuman a cut in his head and fills it with spicy curry sauce. Unfortunatly for Curry Cook, this causes Kinnikuman to go crazy. He looses all his fear and becomes a beast.

The final four fighters are set and Kinnikuman is putting on his brand new ring shoes in preparation for his semi-final bout with Ramenman. He's then told to not wear shoes as this fight is going to occur on a ring made of ice. The fight starts but Kinnikuman can't stand the cold ice ring and takes some blows from Ramenman. All things seem lost but Kin is saved by an unlikely and stinky source.

The Fight then resumes with Kinnikuman now use to the ice and able to counter Ramenman's attacks. Both fighters exchange blows as the ice begins to melt.

Kinnikuman pulls out the victory but his old enemies try for a third time to destroy him but cause harm to someone else.

Terryman is shot in the leg but continues to prepare for his match with Robin Mask. Natsuko tries to stop him and take him to a doctor but he refuses. He knocks her out and heads to the ring. The fight starts with some unexpected events.

As Robin Mask lies in a pile of chairs, Terryman is showered in boos from the crowd. Terryman keeps muttering to himself "don't get up, please don't get up..." But with the crowd cheering for Robin Mask, he does get up and makes his way back into the ring and book 3 concludes.

Terryman and Kinnikuman start slapping each other like little kids and hurling immature insults as the others pull them apart. The next day a press conference is held to hype up the Olympic finals between Kinnikuman and Robin Mask. The media swarms around Robin, taking tons of pictures. A reporting asking him how it feels to win back to back Olympics. Kin yells that the fight hasn't occured yet and is told "Obviously Robin Mask is gonna win." Kinnikuman's answer of "oh yeah" causes his friends to start insulting him too. The chairman announces the rules, which are the same as the previous fights in that you win be either KO'ing your opponent or making him give up. Robin Mask then speaks up and requests a special rule. He says that since Kinnikuman has no finishing technique that the rules should include being able to win by pinning your opponent for a count of three. This way Kinnikuman will have a chance. The new rule is adopted and Robin Mask is applauded for being such a gentleman. Kinnikuman realizes he has to say something so he comes up with his own rule. "The loser of the fight.... buys the winner a Gyuudon!!!!" The crowd is silent as Kinnikuman's reputation tumbles further. His adjusting of the rule to include a cup of miso soup fails to help either. He then yells out about a rule where the loser must leave his country of residence. Robin Mask accepts this rule and Kin's supporters call him an idiot.

With the Finals just days away, Robin Mask is training like crazy. Running every day, lifting weights. Reporters are asking why he is bothering when he's fighting Kinnikuman. Robin says that everyone is underestimating Kinnikuman and that his goofiness is a ploy to throw people off. Robin then continues training as we see Kinnikuman playing around and eating Gyuudon.

The day has come and over 100,000 fans have packed the stadium to witness the olympic finals. Announcer Tazahama is asked who he thinks will win. He answers with "Obiously it's Robin Mask, Kinnikuman a clumsy idiot who has no chance!!!" He is then pelted with garage and the other announcer tells him that there are actually quite a few kin fans now and that you have to watch what you say.

Kinnikuman is in the locker room celebrating his Olympic victory as the fight is only hours away. But first is a battle for 3rd place between Terryman and Ramenman. Ramenman starts using some dirty tactics and is disqualified. He then delivers a message to Kinnikuman, saying that Kinnikuman will lose big because he has lost his fighting spirit. Tears of blood stream down his face and he urges Kinnikuman to return to the person who defeated him in the semi-finals.
